IM Joint Air-to-ground Missile Rocket Motor (JAGM)

​Orbital ATK developed the solid-propellant rocket motor for the Joint Air-to-ground Missile Rocket as an integral member of the Raytheon-Boeing JAGM team.

Orbital ATK brings an extensive background in small, air-launched rocket motors to bear on the JAGM propulsion system. We designed the motor to meet performance and insensitive-munitions requirements, to be low-risk and to be easily produced. This translates into a low-cost, safer weapon for the warfighter while delivering the performance needed for mission success.

Orbital ATK conducted eight static tests of the JAGM rocket motor at cold, ambient and hot temperature extremes. This validated motor performance and set the stage for flight testing. Additionally, we have successfully evaluated the system’s ability to survive the fixed- and rotary-wing environments in dynamic response testing. Between April and October 2010, six successful flight tests were conducted with the motor, and all tests objectives were met.

These successful tests further validated Orbital ATK’s robust rocket-motor design and performance characteristics. JAGM is an all-weather, precision-guided missile that provides increased lethality, range and accuracy that can be launched from a multitude of rotary-wing platforms, including the AH-64 Apache, MH-60R Seahawk, AH-1Z Super Cobra and OH-58D CASUP, as well as the MQ-1C UAS and the F/A-18E/F fixed-wing aircraft.

JAGM is designed to defeat a multitude of target sets that include armored vehicles, boats and other targets, and can be used in urban settings due to its precision strike capability.
