Dulles, Virginia, 31 August 2016 -- Orbital ATK, Inc. (NYSE: OA), a global leader in aerospace and defense technologies, recently held a ribbon cutting ceremony to commemorate the new Large Tactical Motor Manufacturing Facilities at the Allegany Ballistics Laboratory in Rocket Center, West Virginia.
The expansion is being undertaken in order to accommodate the change in demand for tactical propulsion; in particular Orbital ATK’s insensitive munitions (IM) rocket motors. Once completed, the new facilities will leverage Orbital ATK’s experience in manufacturing to create a flexible and efficient production line for the company’s family of advanced propulsion systems, in use on today’s most critical defense programs. Initial production is planned to start in the new facilities in late 2017.
Among those in attendance for the event were U.S. Senator Joe Manchin; U.S. Senator Shelly Moore Capito; William Deligne, Executive Director for the Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA); and David Thompson, President and CEO of Orbital ATK.
"This new facility will be a state-of-the-art factory combining our advanced technology for safer IM rocket motors, with the lean manufacturing techniques to build them very affordably," said Pat Nolan, Vice President and General Manager of Orbital ATK's Missile Products Division of the Defense Systems Group. “We are proud to mark the occasion alongside our distinguished elected officials; representatives from the Navy and the Army, our customers, and our corporate leadership.”
Orbital ATK’s Defense Systems Group is an industry leader in providing innovative and affordable precision and strike weapons, advanced propulsion and hypersonics, missile components across air-, sea- and land-based systems, ammunition and related energetic products.
