​Orbital ATK, as a subcontractor to Stinger Ghaffarian Technologies (SGT), provides mechanical engineering support to the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC) through the Mechanical Systems and Engineering Services IIA (MSES IIA) contract. GSFC organizations served include: Code 540 Mechanical Systems Division (MSD), Instrument Systems and Technology Division (ISTD), Electrical Engineering Division (EED), and Mission Engineering and Systems Analysis (MESA) Division.

Under the contract, Orbital ATK provides mechanical engineering services to study, design, fabricate, integrate, test, verify, and operate space flight, airborne, and ground system hardware for GSFC programs. Orbital ATK also offers GSFC in-house experience and expertise, through its Manufacturing and Integration Facility (MITF) in Beltsville, MD. The MITF is a full-service spaceflight certified facility, which has been used to design, build, and test flight qualified electrical harnesses and printed electronics boards to NASA space mission specifications and standards.

On the JWST program, Orbital ATK provided deployed dynamic analysis support, which included support to the JWST Mechanical Systems Analysis Team. Orbital ATK engineers performed a modal test on the JWST Pathfinder backplane and were primary contributors to the pre-test planning and post-test correlation.

Orbital ATK dynamicists use the deployed JWST Observatory Finite Element Model (FEM) with the backplane reduced to predict the amount of jitter induced by vibration sources, such as the reaction wheels and cryocooler.
